Ingleborough and Gaping Gill from Cragg Farm campsite

Camping by the River Ribble in the evening (see other post for review) I wanted to climb Ingleborough and return via Clapham. The walk started along the River Ribble and ascending Ingleborough from Horton. You have to time this route well. Too late in the day and you meet the Three Peak Challengers coming down. Time it right and it’s nearly deserted. I’ve never climbed Ingleborough this way, only ever come down it. It’s a slow climb but fairly easy. I got to the top at 1:45 having set off at 12. I descended via Little Ingleborough, it was seriously windy and not very fun. It was nice to get down into the shelter of the woodland at Clapham. Then it was pretty much level all the way to Austwick, Wharfe, Helwith Bridge and finally back to the tent. And impressively enough my tarp hadn’t fallen down or taken off in kite styley! 15 miles and with a head cold. For once I was glad to finish. I’m not at my prime!
